Home spa treatments - treat yourself to ME-TIME
Everyday, from the time we wake up till the time we return to bed we are bombarded with good and bad stresses from the demand of our everyday lives. For those of us who are mothers, wives, executives and virtual online students all rolled into one - yes you that superwoman or superman, the effect of stress can be 100 folds more. Then there's pollution's and the harsh effect of the sun just by standing in the open air.
2008/2009 also brought severe financial limitations for many us while we may have had regular professional manicure and pedicure on a weekly schedule, facial and body massages on monthly schedule we now have to cut back severely on what we categorized 'unnecessary essentials'. We are certainly hurting everywhere mind, spirit, physical and in our pockets. It's time we find alternatives to setup our own home spa treatments, you can do it on a very small budget as many of the ingredients and equipment required are most certainly found in your home already.
Irrespective of genders home spa treatments is a must for everyone. We need to take care of our inner-selves and outer-selves, our spirit, mind and body needs to be rejuvenated. If you liken yourself to a car running everyday for kilometers after kilometers, even a car make from metal and hardy materials needs oil change, regular tuning and wheel alignment to keep it running well. How many kilometers have you run this week?
We should make time for home spa treatments. It's easy to put into practice like I say it won't cost much. I'm not a very discipline person so my trick is putting this ME time schedule on my calendar. Like most people we know the principals often we do not have the discipline to follow through as there's always other attractions that will divert our attentions.
My husband on the other hand prefers being worked on by another person and he doesn't quite subscribe to doing it at home. Since returning to Italy we both missed our beauty regimes in Hong Kong. They are inexpensive and the treatments administered are much better than the ones in Europe. We have both gotten used to massages that are hard and focuses on pressure points while in Europe they practice Swedish massages that merely rub your body with essential oil.
LET'S START WITH WORKING OUR WAY TO A HEALTHIER-SELF. DEDICATE A SPACE IN YOUR HOME AS YOUR SPACE.
Once you have identified your space:
- Throw soft cushions on the floor or put your favorite lazy chair that you love to sit in there
- Placed a few scented candles - aroma therapy is a great way to relax your senses
- Keep the place unclutter
- Make sure it's a cool area
- Have soft lights or much better to placed himalayan salt lamp
- Placed a CD player with a few relaxation music CDs.
- Everyday spend at least 5 mins to 10 mins sitting in your corner - clear your mind, concentrate on your breathing and SHUT OUT THE WORLD.
If you are able to do this at least 3 times a week we guarantee you will notice a difference in yourself. For one you may experience having more patience and not react rather you will respond. Your mind will be sharper and you'll make better decisions.

PREPARING FOR HOME SPA TREATMENTS
You will need to prepare some spa equipments for this special day, they can be re-use over and over again, it is really a 1-time investment. Products that will help you do the job well for your hair, face and body. My guess is you may already have many of them in your home.
- Loofah or terry cloth. Avoid synthetic products they can be harsh to the skin, go natural.
- Thick terrycloth bathrobe one that is soft to the touch and feels luxurious when you wrap it around your body.
- Bath salts.
- Essential oils fragrance of your choice - energize, soothing, revitalize.
- Aromatic candles soothing ones like Chamomile, Lavender, Ylang Ylang.
- Himalayan salt lamp if you have one. Turn it on a few hours before actually leave it on 24 hours all the time in your home is good especially in that special corner of yours.
- Coarse sea salts for body scrub.
- Olive oil for hair treatments.
- Your usual range of facial products preferably use product that are good anti-oxidant and provide firming effects.
- Bonus - some relaxation music playing in the background to set you in the right frame of mind.
DEDICATE A DAY OF A WEEK OR A DAY IN A MONTH
Dedicate that as your special Home Spa treatment PAMPER DAY. Yes it is difficult if you have children at home, plan around their nap times or after they have gone to bed in the evenings.
"One evening, one afternoon for yourself out of 30 days in a month is do-able"
On this particular day take things slowly. Reduce the numbers of household chores. Change your routine a little.
- First we shall start with washing your hair and soaking it with olive oil. The olive oil will strengthen your hair and give it a nice shine. Leave the olive oil in for about 30 mins.
- Second start with your face - give yourself a scrub, massage your face after with your regular moisturizer, wash off and put on your regular face mask if you would like to try something different you can always use egg white. Egg white is a good firming agent for your skin. Leave egg white on face for 15 mins.
- Run a nice warm bath with your chosen bath salt sprinkle with your chosen essential oil. Scrub yourself under the shower with coarse sea salt, shower off and immerse yourself in the hot bath for as long as you can or when the water turn cold. Body scrubbing regularly will give you healthy skin.
- After, wrap yourself in your comfy terrycloth bathrobe and prepare yourself a nice ice cool lemon or lime water, drinking this will help your body detoxify really well.
- Lie down on a comfy sofa or bed shut out the whole world. 15 mins at least if you can take a short nap. Play some relaxation sounds in the background to help transport your mind to relaxation level.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST SPA SECRET IS EATING RIGHT

Notice the menu being served at spa resorts? We have read many articles on this subject however it all depends on you as an individual. Personally, we prefer to load up on fruits especially those that are high in anti-oxidant like red grapes, blueberries, mangoes and pomegranates it's healthy and will give you a big beauty bang!
WELL-BEING AND HEALTH AROUND THE WORLD
Every country has their own native recipes for rejuvenation. Italy is famous for its ancient spas equipped with natural salt/sulphur caves and mud therapy. Having tried their mud therapy here I fully endorse that on your next trip to Italy you must try to make time for a visit to an ancient Italian spa experience.
India uses many local spices and simple home ingredients you can mixed them into paste or cream to pamper yourself. Inexpensive easy to create at home, no fuss, easy on the pocket. China believes in acupuncture, specific body massages and consuming boiled natural herbs. Japan subscribed to thermal springs (onsen) as part of everyone's life ritual and simple meals of seafood such as sea weeds. Every country has a their own way to the road of well-being and staying healthy. Choose one that you enjoy and prepare yourself to face the daily challenges of life in a healthier body.
