Piemonte as it is called in Italian is a contraction of the Italian word "ai piedi del monte" meaning at the foot of the mountain.
Piedmont Italy is close to the borders of Switzerland and France. It is easy to reach by car, train or flights. Piedmont Italy is one of the 20 regions of Italy, is the second largest region of Italy after Sicily. We have our own dialect call Piedmontese a language liken to French. If you study Italian history you will understand our relationship with France. How different is it?
Piedmontese dialect is almost a lost art spoken among the older generation. An association call Famija Turineisa established in 1925 is trying to keep it alive with organization of concerts, plays and social gatherings.
