Italy vacation rental in Piedmont Italy
Inexpensive ways to holiday in Italy is to rent your holiday home, stay at bed and breakfast or take an Italian Farm Holidays. The rise of the EURO rates is one reason why accommodations are costing many visitors a large chunk of their holiday budget. This is especially true when you are traveling with your family and need more than one room.
Our personal experience with such types of accommodations is that it offer you more space and amenities than hotel rooms. Other benefits are more personable service from the owners, home cooked food for breakfasts and no longer have to run down 6 flights of stairs if the lift breaks down. Cooking in your kitchen is a BIG cost savings on your holiday budget if you are on a long vacation.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ITALY VACATION RENTAL
If this is your first trip to Italy and you have decided on vacation rental at Italian bed and breakfast or at any of our beautiful farms. Here are some points to consider.
- In the summer most of the places are not equipped with air-conditioners. If you are in the city it can be quite humid and hot to sleep in the night. Out in the open countryside it will be much cooler. The way we keep our home cool in summer is to close the window and door shutters - yes very few of us put up curtains, we rely on our shutters. You can try finding a place with a swimming pool so you can keep cool at noon.
- In the winter it is cold and damp. Not that we do not want to switch on the heater but there are rules in some part of the region where private homes cannot turn on the heat till a certain date. Now beware the cost of heating is normally not factored into your rental. Do ask the owner what is the estimated heating costs. A fair estimate should be around €20 for four days depending where you are. Rates varies too.
- Laundry and clothes dryer are not common. You may have to take your laundry to a self-servie laundrette. If you are lucky you may find laundry machine in some places. Definitely no clothes dryer anywhere. This is due to the high cost of electricity in Italy. Italian hang dry their clothes outdoor or in a dedicated area of their homes.
- Kitchen will be small. Usually it is a kitchenette with few utensils with a small bar-sized refrigerator. It is adequate to cook simple meals. No problem just buy your groceries on a day-to-day basis. They are fresh too this way.
- Most bathrooms in Italy are either shower or tub with a hand shower. Shower stall is usually small sometimes barely enough to turn around in older homes. You may find there's no door or shower curtain. Water in the bathrooms are also not pressurized forget about having a luxurious bath experience. Now if you love big thick style towels like we do. You will need to bring your own. The ones provided are usually small and thin.
- Now let's talk bed manay Italy vacation rental do not have beds made in U.K or U.S standards we are taken equivalent to queen or king size beds. Many of them have double bed, others have two single beds pushed together and they are known as 'matrimonial' bed. You will get a comfy sleep if you are not too tall.
- Living room are usually part of the kitchen if you rent a small apartment. You may find one couch and some chairs.
- Other amenities like telephone not likely to have. You can make use of the public telephone in the village or lucky you have an International roaming mobile phone. Cheaper for you to buy a pre-paid phone card. Television you will find them now they only work for local broadcast. Well, you are on an Italian holidays you should watch what's happening locally. There are some who now offers cable or satellite transmission. Radio this is not so common now.
- Narrow staircase is very much the fixture for old farm houses or old buildings in the cities. If you have large suitcases you may need to go up slowly. If you have mobility issues than make sure you ask on location of the rooms and the staircases. Another important consideration is that old building in cities do not necessary have elevators. If you apartment is located on the fifth or eight floors be sure to find out whether there is an elevator.
- Outdoor in the summer beware of bugs. You won't find them in the cities only out in the countryside. Keeping the kitchen clean is a good way to keep some of the bugs away. Bringing bug spray is good idea.
These are considerations, they should not dampen your Italian holidays experiences. It is good to know to be prepared and hopefully you will used it to make sure that your holiday is well planned.
Personally, we highly recommend Italy vacation rental it will bring you closer to the Italian experience rather than doing the usual site-seeing tours of cities. Prices are reasonable which leaves you with spare to spend on other things such as bringing more souvenirs for friends.
YOU WILL NEED A CAR
Out in the country the driveway to many properties are not ideal. Don't forget you are navigating through farm lands. You will come across dirt tracks, narrow and steep, drive across rail tracks. It is really exciting.
Yes for this reason you will definitely need to rent a car!. Deals on car rental at CheapOAir.com are fantastically low. You can rent as cheap as USD19 a day. They compare prices between Hertz, Avis, Dollars and others while you make the decision which one is right for you. Like we say before these days if you know how and where to get your travel deals on the Internet you can travel cheaply all over.
