Wine BankIn the town of Pollenzo, Province of Cuneo we have our famous Wine Bank locally referred to as La Banca del Vino. This properly was once a hunting lodge of King Carlo Alberto of Piedmont in the 1800s. Today it houses a multi-million-euro food and wine complex, opened in 2004. Besides storing wines it also houses a professional cooking school and a 4-star restaurant Ristorante Guido. This Wine Bank holds wines from more than 300 selected Italian wineries with over 100,000 bottles of wines. This property is associated with Slow Food. They sell online and also allow visits. BraidaNext the estate of Braida Giacomo Bologna located in Roccheta Tanaro in the Province of Asti. Giacomo Bologna realized that Barbera wine could age brilliantly in small oak barrels. Since then he has gone on to produce three famous crus - Uccellone, Bricco della Bogotta and Ai Suma. Giacomo Bologna is seen as the man who revolutionized Barbera d'Asti. The family tradition is till follow through today by his children and his wife. You may be lucky enough to have his daughter Raffaela recount her father's story while guiding you through their winery. WHEN IS A GOOD TIME TO TAKE A ITALY WINE TOUR?

Actually anytime is a good time or you can join the Movimento Turismo del Vino annual events (The Tourist Movement of Wine - MTV). This event is celebrated by over 900 wineries across Italy. In Italy we call this even the marriage of art, food and wine which to you will spell the perfect Italian holidays.

Another great time is to come visit Asti on 16th. September when Asti host its historical Palio of Asti. Palio d'astiAn ancient horse race around the city square. An historical event that started in 1275. Asti center Piazza Alfieri turns into a race tack on this day. The entire town join in the festivity dressing in costume of that era and parading through town. Every year approximately 1200 characters are involved with the magnificent display of flag-wavers call 'Sbandieratori'. This region is well-known for its excellent Italian red wines Barbera d'Asti, Barbera del Monferrato, Cisterna d'Asti, Brachetto, Dolcetto d'Asti, Grignolino d'Asti not to mention our famous sweet whites sparking wine Asti spumante. You will catch the Palio race and great wine tasting fair all at the same place!

Grape harvest season in Piedmont Italy late September the region talk-about event 'Festa del Vino e del Monferrato' you shouldn't miss this. It usually starts from 14th till 23rd September held during the weekends only in a town call Casale Monferrato.

Go up to the Langhe hills South-east to the town of Alba look for the village Barolo.You got it this is where our Barolo wine got its name from. It happens in September too. It's called Festival of Barolo and is a prelude before the grape harvest. Lots to drink and lots to eat. Barolo is a dry ruby red wine with maroon-orangey highlights. Full bodied with aroma of rose, violet and liquorice with 13% alcohol content, it need to age for a minimum of 3 years and for it to achieve the Riserva denomination it must be aged 5 years. Excellent when you serve meat for dining.

1. In april in will be in Verona for four days and nights. It is called ViniItaly For You.

2. Last Sunday of May all of the wineries around Italy open their doors to visitors. It is called Cantine Aperto.

3. 10th August in honor of San Lorenzo all MTV sponsors wine tasting festival in their finest piazzas throughout Italy it is called Calici di Stelle.

4. End of September on a Sunday in celebration of grape harvest called Benvenuta Vendemmia.

One more suggestion is to rent a car and hop from vineyard to vineyard. We guarantee you the experience is different at each one. Try large vineyard estate, small vineyards in off beaten track and see the more famous ones.
