MYSTERY SURROUNDING SHROUD TURIN
This piece of linen cloth has puzzled the world for centuries. Few sectors are questioning its authenticity. Skeptic argues there is no trail of its origin. In Italy Shroud Turin is protected by our church and treated with great reverence. It is kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist or Duomo as Italian refers to it in Turin, Italy. Shroud Turin was given to the Holy See by the House of Savoy in 1983 although the Shroud has permanently resided here since 1578.
To preserve Shroud Turin it is conserved and protected in a custom built, temperature and humidity controlled, light tight case which can be moved, raised and opened to display the Shroud for public exhibitions. The case is built of a light, aeronautical alloy, apart from the upper surface which is made of bullet-proof, laminated glass it weighs approximately 1,000 kg.
In Turin you can view many artifacts related to Shroud Turin at Museo delle Sindone.

Let's put it this way, this piece of linen is a mystery. It will remain so forever. The last time Shroud Turin was shown to the public was 2000. It was not due for another public showing till 2025. Following custom it should only be shown once every 25 years. Special permission was given by Pope Benedict XVI to show it in 2010 stating the primary reason was to focus on pastoral matters and give pilgrims their first opportunity to view the Shroud since it was restored in 2002.
Tickets are limited and the showing is between 10 April 2010 to 23 May 2010.
