Turin lived through some amazing historical wars, sieges, victories, defeats and political struggles. The last 10 years large influx of migrants from all over Europe including myself from Asia. All these happenings has left an enormous cultural and artistic trail you can witness as you walk through Turin city.

Best description of of Turin is that it is built of Baroque style which is considered one of the best in the world. Thanks to the House of Savoy who has immaculate taste many of the treasured architectures was built in the period of 1600. A few of Italy palaces are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Guarino Guarini and Filippo Juvarra are two ancient architects that you will hear of many times when you visit Turin.

Turin archadeIn Turin city we have over 18 km of archades connecting buildings to buildings, you can walk through the entire city center enjoying brief stops at coffee shops, restaurants, sweet shops and fashion retailers. Many of us prefer to walk through the city then drive to enjoy the sights and sounds.

We recommend you stop for an authentic cup of Italian espresso, a hot chocolate or bicerin ( coffee and chocolate blend) or a glass of Martini, sample some of our Italian pastry or buy them home as gifts. A must to try is our Italian ice-cream. You will find a few good ice-cream shops scattered along the archade routes.

TURIN UNDERGROUND

No kidding, we are not kidding. There are guided tours you can take to visit tunnels below Turin city. Fifteen meters below Turin the tunnel of the Citadel and the sub-cellars of our Baroque palaces holds some mysteries for you to discover. You will also enjoy stories of ancient murders which till today has never been solved. There are even air-raid shelters plus you will get to see the Royal ice depots of Porta Palazzo. The tour last approximately 3 hours. Try Somewhere Tours and Events for this. We have some friends who did it and said it was fascinating.

History tell a story of Pietro Micca he played a key role in the seige of Turin. He was credited for saving Turin. During the seige there was a need to protect enemies from entering via the tunnels. Pietro Micca sacrifice himself and blew up a section of the tunnel including himself and save the day! You can go down history by visiting the Pietro Micca Museum which is named after our hero.

We have not done it before but we hope to do it soon, it does look fascinating.

ANOTHER FASCINATION OF TURIN

Many Christians will know Turin as the place where the Shroud of Jesus is kept. It is not on exhibit all year round. The next time you will get to see it will be Spring 2010 the event is known as Ostensione della Sindone. History tells the story of Emanuelles Filiberto one of the Savoy King who in 1578 brought the shroud to Turin from Chambery, France. Today it is heavily guarded in Duomo di Torino. There are also many tales of Turin in the ancient time during the period of witchcraft as being considered by gurus of occult as the convergence for both black and white triangle for example Piazza Statuto is considered the dark side of the city it was considered the unlucky side of the city. If you look at some of the buildings here you will find the structure to be scary especially some of the unusual statues adorning the ancient buildings.

SAFEST CITY IN ITALY

In our opinion this is a great place to visit when compared to Rome. We really did not feel safe in Rome although it is a magnificent city, we needed to watch our belongings or mind the traffic in front of us trying to identify would-be pick-pocket thief, similar to Venice. When you are in Turin you feel a lot more safer.

Many of our friends who came to Italy are warned of petty thefts, some had bad experiences and swear never to return. Our reputation have not improved much on that front. If you are planning to see Italy you can very much do the same thing in Turin except for a few famous Italian landmarks which are not located in Turin other than that if it is Italian hospitality you wish to experience, foods, culture, arts......we have them all and more. Why not enjoy your Italian holidays in a safer environment.
